Palworld

Actually Fun
Catch a Pal, put it to work, upgrade the base, repeat. Whole nights vanish. The grind only bites after level 40.

Is Palworld fun? Yes. Palworld scores 9/10 for fun. Catching Pals, putting them to work and upgrading your base makes a loop that is very hard to walk away from.

Where this score comes from: Steam player reviews, last checked against the 200 most recent English reviews in October 2026. Palworld on Steam

Palworld got famous as the Pokémon-with-guns joke. What keeps you playing is a survival crafting game where the creatures do the chores while you go find the next one.

Is Palworld Fun? The Verdict

Palworld scores 9/10 on immediate fun. Players under 20 hours were nearly all positive. It misses a 10 because the middle of the game turns into a resource grind, and the combat is the weakest part of the package.

What Works

The loop is simple and it never runs dry. Explore, catch, gather, craft, upgrade the base, go again. One Souls fan expected to refund it within the hour and lost a week to it instead, with three-hour stretches vanishing on one more task. Another player said every one-hour session turns into three.

Catching feels good. You wear a Pal down, throw a sphere and hope, and grabbing one far above your level because you played it smart is a real rush. Then it stops being a collectible and becomes staff: mining, farming, cooking and running your slightly shady little factory.

The map is open from the start, and a lot of new players said the same thing: it looked silly, then it clicked.

What Kills the Fun in Palworld

The grind shows up. Most players put the turn around level 40 or 50, where each new tier wants a pile of rare materials and you spend more time babysitting furnaces than exploring. Fans who finished it say the second half drags unless you raise the XP rate in the world settings. Since that mostly lands after the first 20 hours, it costs one point.

Combat is the other soft spot. A five-hour player found fights clunky and their Pals dumb enough to shoot the dirt. It works, but it isn’t why anyone stays.

Some found the first 10 to 15 hours overwhelming, with lots of systems and no clear priority. Expect a bit of stutter on mid-range PCs. Steam Deck performance is rough despite the Verified badge.

Is Palworld Fun Solo or With Friends?

Solo: Very good. Plenty of players went in alone and loved it.

With friends: Even better. Groups talk about friends who kept playing all night, and a friend who knows the basics makes the busy early hours much easier. One catch: on official servers, and on dedicated servers left at default settings, a guild nobody logs into for three days can lose its base.

Bottom Line: Is Palworld Worth Playing?

Yes. The first 40 hours are some of the most fun survival crafting around, and you can stop when the grind starts. If you want another dig, build and gear up loop that hooks just as fast, Terraria at 9/10 is the closest match.

For comparison, we rated Monster Hunter Wilds 7/10 and My Singing Monsters 6/10 on the same fun-only scale.
