Cyberpunk 2077 Review: The Greatest Redemption Arc in Gaming (9/10)

Actually Fun
A stunning atmosphere that pulls you in immediately. A rare game you never want to uninstall.

The Verdict

Cyberpunk 2077 is a 9/10. It’s the kind of game you don’t uninstall. Once Night City gets you, it keeps you.

Night City Is the Game

Most open-world games give you a map. Cyberpunk 2077 gives you a city that feels like it exists without you. The density, the verticality, the neon reflecting off wet pavement at 2am while a radio station you’ve never heard plays something perfect. That’s the core of this game, and nothing else in the genre does it quite like this.

From the first few minutes, you’re not just playing. You’re soaking. The first-person perspective, the lighting, the music, they all click into something that’s hard to shake. You stop treating it as a game to finish and start treating it as a place to be.

Cruising through the streets at night with no objective? That’s not wasted time. That’s the point.

The Post-2.0 Version Is a Different Game

The 2.0 update and Phantom Liberty expansion rebuilt the combat and cyberware systems from the ground up. Your build actually feels like your build now. The progression is tangible. There’s a real “power trip” arc as your V goes from scrappy mercenary to someone who walks into a room and changes the physics of it.

If you played at launch and bounced, come back. It’s not the same game.

The One Real Problem

The 2020 launch left scars, and some of them are still visible. Occasional NPC AI quirks and a few legacy design decisions remind you this game was rebuilt rather than designed clean. It doesn’t happen often, but it can pull you out of the immersion for a second.

More than the bugs, though, is the psychological weight. Some players still carry the memory of what this game was supposed to be. That baggage is real, and it’s the only thing keeping this from a 10.

The Final Word

Cyberpunk 2077 is a 10/10 for atmosphere and an 8/10 for mechanics. That averages out to a 9, which is exactly what it deserves.

It went from the most cautionary tale in gaming to an atmospheric benchmark. No other open-world game makes you stop mid-drive just to watch the rain fall on a highway overpass. That’s rare. That’s worth something.

Play it. Stay a while.
