Is Call of Duty fun? Not really. Call of Duty scores 3/10 for fun. The shooting still feels great, but new players fight the launcher, their BIOS and cheaters before the fun shows up.
Where this score comes from: Steam player reviews, last checked against the 200 most recent English reviews in September 2026. Call of Duty on Steam
This page rates Call of Duty as a whole, the way you get it on PC today: one Steam launcher that holds Black Ops 7, Modern Warfare 4 and the free Warzone. You install the launcher first, and for a lot of new players, that’s where the evening ends.
Call of Duty scores 3/10 on immediate fun. Across all three games, players under 20 hours split almost exactly in half. The ones who reached a match mostly had a good time. Most of the unhappy ones never got that far, stuck on a giant download, a Secure Boot or TPM check, or a BIOS update for the anti-cheat. When your first hour goes to motherboard settings, great gunplay can’t carry the score.
The core is still Call of Duty. Guns sound crisp, fights end in a second, and you respawn right back into it. Newer players describe it as fast, loud and chaotic. One went in for one more game and came out three hours later.
Zombies has its own fans, and several players who came for the Black Ops 7 zombies mode rate it highly. Warzone being free helps too.
Getting in is the worst part. The launcher alone runs past 100 GB before you download the game you wanted. Then the anti-cheat checks for TPM 2.0, Secure Boot and a current BIOS, and plenty of players had all three on and still hit an attestation error. One spent four and a half of their five hours in menus.
Cheaters and sweats are waiting when you do get in. Wallhack and aimbot complaints show up constantly, and one level 51 player kept landing in lobbies with people at level 700 and up. A few honest players said one good match got them flagged into limited matchmaking.
The paid games are full price and still push points and battle passes, and longtime fans say each year plays like the last one.
Solo: Rough. You queue with randoms against tighter squads. One player won their first casual Rebirth match, then lost to the same player five games in a row.
With friends: Better. Many who stick with it say they play for their friends. The catch is that everyone has to clear the install and BIOS checks, and one player couldn’t join friends at all because of Secure Boot.
Only if your PC already passes the checks and you have a squad waiting. The shooting is still snappy, but the road to it is long and the lobbies are hard on newcomers. Battlefield 6 sits just above it at 4/10.
For comparison, we rated PUBG: Battlegrounds 3/10 and Apex Legends 5/10 on the same fun-only scale.
See where it lands in our list of overrated games.
Call of Duty scores 3/10 on immediate fun. The gunfights still hit fast. Getting in means a huge install and BIOS hoops, then cheaters and sweaty lobbies.
BIOS hoops. Cheaters and sweats.
One question: did it deliver immediate fun? Graphics, story depth, difficulty and critical acclaim are ignored. Pick-up-and-play accessibility is rewarded; anything that makes you wait for the fun to start is penalized.
